| Overview | The following report is intended to give a snapshot of the views and perceptions of participants in the Philosophy of Science Association (PSA) Climate Study. The report is divided into seven main sections. First, we describe the demographic characteristics of study participants. This provides readers with a sense of the representativeness of the sample compared to the general PSA membership. Second, two sections detail aspects of the study methods. We first detail the extent of non‐item response, or the extent of survey completion by participants. Next, we describe the measures used in the study. Third, four sections provide the results of the survey. A section titled Perceptions of Different Groups provides participant perceptions of the treatment of 10 different groups (e.g., White men, women, racial/ethnic minorities). Included in this section are analyses comparing whether White men are thought to be treated more positively than the other 9 groups, and whether there are differences in group treatment perception based on participant attendance at the PSA Biennial Meeting. A section titled Climate and Satisfaction provides results of analyses examining the relationships between the six measures of the Biennial Meeting climate and overall satisfaction with the Biennial Meeting. In addition, we present results of analyses examining the relationships between three measures of the climate in participants’ professional discipline and their work and job satisfaction within their discipline. In a section titled Differences in Climate Perceptions for Different Groups, we examine whether there are differences in participants’ views of the climate at the Biennial Meeting and in their professional discipline, and in their satisfaction with the Biennial Meeting and professional discipline, based on: Biennial meeting attendance, age, sex/gender, citizenship, and language. A final section of results titled Obstacles to Attending the Biennial Meeting reports on the importance of various factors as obstacles for attending the Biennial Meeting. A final section of the report summarizes the major findings described within the report. |
